The Experts’ Guide to 100 Things Everyone Should Know How to Do

January 11th, 2005

The Comfortable Girl is proud to recommend The Experts’ Guide to 100 Things Everyon Should Know How to Do. It is an amazing little book that is sure to tickle your fancy. The author, Samantha Ettus is an inspired writer who came up with this clever and unique little book that should be in the hands of every woman. Below is the review as it is listed on Amazon.com. Check it out!

When it comes to changing a tire, scrambling eggs, telling a joke or doing laundry, Ettus is no expert. (She is just the president of a brand-management firm.) But for this guide, she tracked down people who are, and asked their advice on everyday tasks. So former White House social secretary Letitia Baldrige explains how to shake hands; make-up guru Bobbi Brown teaches how to apply lipstick; New York Times Company chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. gives tips on reading a newspaper; and three-time U.S. Open winner Jennifer Capriati instructs readers on hitting a tennis ball. For better or for worse, Ettus seems to have allowed each contributor to insert some personality into his or her offering. Accordingly, the explanation on how to make a bed, from Tracey R. Henderson, the Holiday Inn Select Executive Housekeeper of the Year 2003, ends with a hokey “Show someone else the job you have done so that they can pat you on the back,” while the lesson on tying a bow tie, from Tucker Carlson, co-host of CNN is Crossfire and an avid bow tie enthusiast, concludes, “Consider whether you really want to do this…. When you wear a bow tie, people will make assumptions about you.” The result is a guide that is alternately lighthearted and serious, a coffee-table book of the most practical sort. 30 line drawings.

Have You Ever Needed a Hug?

November 9th, 2004

The Comfortable Girl…

…knows it’s perfectly fine to ask for a hug when she needs one.

Do you know anyone in need of a hug? It’s such a simple gesture that can make all the difference in a person’s day.

Motto of the Day: GIVE MORE HUGS!

When was the last time you…

October 21st, 2004

1. Called that friend you have been meaning to “catch up” with?
2. Gone out to the movies?
3. Baked cookies?
4. Gone shopping?
5. Spent time with your family?
6. Gone for a long walk?
7. Read a good book?
8. Took a day off from everything, work, school, life?
9. Told those you love how you feel about them?
10. Smiled? Laughed? Had fun?
11. Played a game?
12. Made time for a nap?

Whenever you are feeling a little down, just make a list of all of your favorite things. My list is listed above for an example. Whenever I feel sad or need a pick up, I grab my list and choose something that would make me happy. My idea of a great night would be renting a movie, curling up in a blanket on my couch, and relaxing. What would your list look like?

A Very Comfortable Flight?

October 2nd, 2004

Could it be possible to guarantee that the next time you step on an airplane you will be guaranteed a nice pleasant trip? Well… not exactly, but this is the closest you will ever come to reaching that point. Today while looking up some airline information I came across a very interesting site. It was entitled: Gay Travel. After looking at the site, and realizing that I was not, in fact gay, I moved onward with my searching. At first I pretended it wasn’t there, but the image was already burned into my head. At first I have to admit I was jealous. I would like my own flight as well. Perhaps an all female flight, complete with chocolate servings, hot-men stewards, and some genuine chick flicks would make me happy. Then it hit me, the nice people at Orbitz have just given me all the things I desired. Imagine if you will ladies, a plane ride full of gorgeous, well dressed, polite men, sipping champagne and talking about fashion and family life. Anything you get served to eat on the flight would probably be mouthwatering, and not to mention that the movie selection will most likely be to our liking as well. I can’t imagine a more relaxed flight, can you?

Pamper Yourself Tonight.

September 30th, 2004
Girl

When is the last time you actually spent an entire evening pampering yourself? This weekend, The Comfortable Girl suggests that you pick a night, rent yourself a movie, order in chinese (or a pizza), and relax. It’s time you started scheduling yourself some “me” time.

Start by choosing the night that is most convient for you, and make sure you have handled the kids, the husband/bf, or any other “disturbances” that could disrupt you from total relaxation.

The next step is going out for some supplies. The Comfortable Girl suggests you make your first stop at the video store, and rent the movie: that you have never had the time to watch, but always wanted too. We also recommend that you venture onto the Bath and Body Works website and look at the new products they have to offer.

The other stops are up to you. If you love to read, stop off at a bookstore and pick up that novel you have had your eye on, or if you are need of a new CD, now is the time to splurge. After all, this is ALL in the name of therapy, right? You last and final stop should be a store that sells your favorite junk foods. This is night to throw away the diet books and enjoy “having the munchies”.

Bathtime Bliss

When you finally set aside time for a bath, be sure to make the most of it. Gather all your
goodies — an Aromatherapy candle, matches, a quiet CD and CD player, your fluffiest towels, and most importantly, a “do not disturb†sign. Give yourself a few minutes to set up your sanctuary, then indulge in one of our bathtime rituals.

HYDROTHERAPY - Discover the Healing Power of Water

Hydrotherapy utilizes the therapeutic properties in water to relieve muscle and joint pain, stress, fatigue and much more. At Bath and Body Works we know that water is essential for good health, that’s why we’ve combined the benefits or Aromatherapy and Hydrotherapy to bring you this unique collection of bathing products.

He’s Just Not THAT Into You…

September 27th, 2004

For ages women have come together over coffee, cocktails, or late-night phone chats to analyze the puzzling behavior of men.

He’s afraid to get hurt again.
Maybe he doesn’t want to ruin the friendship.
Maybe he’s intimidated by me.
He just got out of a relationship.

Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo are here to say that — despite good intentions — you’re wasting your time. Men are not complicated, although they’d like you to think they are. And there are no mixed messages.

The truth may be He’s just not that into you.

Ladies for a good laugh, stop by your local bookstore, or make a few clicks on Amazon.com to get a hold of this book. Women from all over have praised this book. I have to hand it to Greg and Liz for telling us like it is.
